Anastasia Hayes Named SEC Player of the Week

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball's Anastasia Hayes was named the SEC Player of the Week after helping lead the Bulldogs to a pair of blowout wins against Missouri and Texas A&M. Hayes joins freshman Denea Carter as Bulldogs that have earned SEC weekly honors this season.
Hayes, a native of Murfreesboro, Tenn., was a significant part of the Bulldogs' perfect weekend in SEC play last week. Hayes led the team in scoring at 23.0 points per game while also getting her teammates involved, averaging six assists per contest. Hayes added seven rebounds and a steal to her impressive totals.
Hayes was nearly unstoppable from the field, shooting 52% from the floor, 75% from three and 89% from the free throw line. Annie connected on 17-of-19 free throws, including a perfect 8-for-8 outing against Texas A&M. She also tied a season-high with seven assists against A&M.
Since the start of SEC play on Jan. 2, Hayes has completely elevated her game. Her points per game have increased by seven points, her shooting percentage has increased eight percent and her free throw has improved by 24 percentage points. In SEC games, she averages 21.4 ppg, the third-best scoring average in the conference. She is ranked third in the SEC in free throw percentage (85%) also while ranking in the top 5 in field goal percentage (51%) and the top 15 in assists per game (3.0).
Needing 18 points against Texas A&M, Hayes surpassed the 1,800-career point milestone with her 22-point performance against the Aggies. With her 22-point outing, Hayes has scored in double-digits in 10 straight games, eclipsing the 20-point mark in six of those contests.
Hayes and Mississippi State will be back on the road Thursday when they travel to Auburn before returning home for two games the following week against Florida (Feb. 10) and Ole Miss (Feb. 13).
