Jessika Carter Named SEC Player of the Week

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball's Jessika Carter was named the SEC Player of the Week after a career day against New Mexico and helping lead the Bulldogs to a Sun Coast Challenge Championship in Tampa, Fla. This is Carter's second career SEC Player of the Week honor, the first of the season.
Carter, a native of Waverly Hall, Ga., has been one of the best post players in America this season. Against New Mexico in the Sun Coast Challenge, Carter took over and was dominant in the paint. She tied her career-high in scoring with 29 points and also set a new career-best in assists with four.
To go along with her 29 points was a 10-rebound performance that gave Carter her sixth double-double of the season and the 24th of her career.
On her way to scoring 29 points, Carter was 14-for-18 from the field and 1-for-1 from the free throw line. Her 14 made field goals against UNM are the most by any SEC player this season. She added two blocked shots to her season total of 36 and has extended her streak of having multiple blocked shots in a game to six straight.
Carter has scored 999 career points and will become the 28th member of the MSU 1,000-point club with her first made basket against Vanderbilt.
Entering SEC play on Thursday, Dec. 29, Carter leads Mississippi State in points per game (14.2), rebounds per game (8.4) and blocked shots (36). On the national stage, Carter ranks 4th in the NCAA, 2nd in the SEC in blocked shots, 7th in the NCAA, 2nd in the SEC in blocks per game (2.7), 31st nationally, 3rd in the SEC, in field goal percentage (56%) and her six double-doubles this season is the 13th most in the country and the 3rd most in the SEC.
Carter and Mississippi State will open SEC play on Thursday, Dec. 29, at Vanderbilt before coming home to host Ole Miss on New Year's Day. Tip-off for both games is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT. State vs Ole Miss will also be televised nationally on SEC Network.
