Class of 2023: Delainey Everett
December 19, 2022 | Softball
STARKVILLE – The nation's No. 29 prospect, Delainey Everett, signed with Mississippi State softball in November.
Â
Everett is a hitting pitcher out of Oakdale, California, where she is the reigning CalHiSports.com Player of the Year.
Â
"Delainey is a true two-way player that can contribute on both sides of the ball," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "A left-handed pitcher and hitter, she brings both power and a crafty approach to the bullpen and at the plate. She is a fiery competitor from the NorCal Firecrackers where she has played for her father, Brandan Everett, and has developed a high IQ for the game."
Â
Everett's high school career was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which cancelled her freshman season. She exploded onto the scene as a sophomore, however, batting .524 and posting a 0.48 ERA in the circle for Oakdale High. She struck out 131 batters over 82.1 innings.
Â
The following year, she improved on her impressive ERA, lowering it to 0.47 over 104.2 innings. She struck out 196 batters that spring while allowing a .106 batting average against. At the plate, she hit .451 as a junior with 35 RBIs and saw 24 of her 37 hits go for extra bases.
Â
"I think Delainey is going to be a dynamic, left-handed pitcher and hitter for us," associate head coach Josh Johnson added. "I think she could possibly play a position in the field as well as making her a great hitting and pitching combo. She throws very hard and isn't afraid to tackle big teams. We're really excited to get Delainey in the maroon and white."
Â
On the travel ball circuit, Everett recorded a 4.2 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 2020. She played for her aforementioned father and has family connections throughout professional sports. Her uncle, Josh Parry, played three seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks, including an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX. Her late cousin, Tom Urbani, played four MLB seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers.
Â
"I chose Mississippi State University because I loved the family environment and the hometown feel, and it's a place where I can achieve my personal goals while playing for one of the best Division I, SEC softball programs in the country," Everett said.
Â
Mississippi State softball signed five student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 9. State's class was ranked No. 10 by Extra Inning Softball, the highest-ranked class under Ricketts. Every player was ranked among the nation's top 100 by Extra Inning Softball. The Bulldogs will continue to release an in-depth look at each signee throughout the month of December.
