Goold Tabbed Second-Team All-American By Softball America

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State pitcher Peja Goold's outstanding season in Maroon and White has netted the senior hurler yet another honor.
Softball America tabbed Goold as a Second Team All-American on Tuesday. It's just the latest notable achievement for the Stockton, California, native whose production from the circle has helped push MSU to its second Super Regional in program history.
The recognition is MSU's 33rd All-American honor in program history, and she is the 11th individual to reach that status. She is the first Bulldog pitcher to be named an All-American since Kellie Wilkerson, who totaled seven selections across all four years of her career from 1999-02.
Goold enters this weekend's Norman Super Regional with a 2.12 earned run average over 148.1 innings pitched. She's struck out 178 batters this season and opponents have hit just .177 against her.
Goold's totals rank her among the Southeastern Conference's best. She leads the league and ranks fourth nationally with eight shutouts and boasts the fifth-most strikeouts in the SEC. Goold is also inside the top 10 in the conference in WHIP, opponent's batting average, innings pitched and complete games.
The season has been full of highlights for Goold. She tossed her first career no-hitter while tallying five one-hitters. In just one year in Starkville, Goold cracked the all-time MSU top-10 list for career shutouts. She also boasts top-10 marks in State history for strikeouts per seven innings and total strikeouts.
In addition to All-America honors from Softball America, Goold had already been chosen as USA Today Sports' SEC Newcomer of the Year. She also earned a First-Team All-Region selection from the NFCA.
Earlier this month, Goold was selected by the Oklahoma City Spark in the AUSL College Draft, becoming the 19th Bulldog in history drafted to play professional softball and bringing the program's total number of professional players to 29. Goold was the fourth pick in the second round and the 10th overall selection.
