Bulldogs Drop Five-Set Battle To Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Mississippi State volleyball team dropped a tightly-contested five-set match to Tennessee on Sunday afternoon inside the Joan Cronan Volleyball Center.Â

The Bulldogs took the first set, 25-23, but the Volunteers bounced back to take the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-19. MSU forced a deciding fifth set after taking the fourth set 25-23, but Tennessee took the match with a 16-14 victory in the fifth.Â

Gabby Coulter and Emily Oerther combined for 61 assists and 25 digs. Coulter earned her team-leading fifteenth double-double with 43 assists and 14 digs, while adding two aces and one kill. Oerther garnered her first double-double of the season with 18 assists and 11 digs.Â

Gabby Waden tallied a team-leading and season-high 29 kills on a .355 hitting clip. Waden also added four digs and one block on the afternoon.

Shania Cromartie issued 13 kills and 11 digs to earn her ninth double-double, while adding three blocks. Sania Petties recorded 12 kills on a .526 hitting clip, while issuing three blocks, three digs and an ace.Â

Lauren Myrick garnered her eighth double-double on the season by issuing 10 kills and 11 digs, while also adding two assists.Â

Lilly Gunter sprawled out for 25 digs and added four assists on the afternoon.Â

The Bulldogs return home to close out the regular season with a pair of matches against Missouri on Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26. Friday's match will begin at 6 p.m. CT, while first serve on Saturday is set for 3 p.m. Admission is free for all home matches with gates opening one hour prior to first serve.Â
