Women's Tennis Readies For ITA Kickoff Weekend

ATHENS, Ga. - The Mississippi State women's tennis team seeks to keep their momentum rolling as they take part in the ITA Kickoff Weekend for a chance to earn a berth in the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship in Madison, Wisconsin next month.
MSU is set to face Iowa (2-0) in their first matchup on Friday at 9 a.m. CT. Depending on Friday's results, State will face off against either No. 3 Georgia or North Florida on Saturday, which will begin at 9 a.m. or 1 p.m.
For the third straight season, Mississippi State has started the year 3-0 with wins over Jacksonville State, Memphis, and Louisiana over the first two weekends.
In doubles play, MSU has been stalwart going 8-0. State is led by the 28th-ranked duo of Magda Adaloglou and Chloé Cirotte as well as the pairing of Marta Falceto and Alessia Tagliente, who have three wins apiece.
Meanwhile in singles play, No. 50 Emmanouela Antonaki picked up her first ranked win last weekend against No. 95 Camila Romero of Memphis and is off to a 3-0 start this spring. Similarly, Cirotte and Tagliente have earned three singles victories so far, and neither has dropped a set in doing so.
Friday will be the first time Mississippi State and Iowa have faced each other in their history.
MSU head coach Daryl Greenan previously coached at Iowa from 2005-09 where he was the 2006 Big Ten coach of the year and made two appearances at the NCAA Tournament.
The Hawkeyes are headlined by sophomore Alexa Noel, who is the No. 3 singles player in the country. Noel is 31-3 in her career including a 17-0 mark in dual match play.
Georgia will host North Florida at 1 p.m. CT on Friday for its first action of the season. The Ospreys are 0-1 after dropping a 6-1 decision at then No. 20 Florida last Friday.
