January 14, 2022 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE - The Mississippi State women's tennis team is set to open their 48th season of play against Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Â
Head coach Daryl Greenan, who is entering his 13th season in maroon and white, has guided MSU to a victory in 11 out of 12 season openers - including 10 straight wins. Saturday will mark the first ever meeting between the Bulldogs and the Gamecocks.
Â
MSU returns with six veterans from the 2020-21 season including No. 50 Emmanouela Antonaki and No. 67 Magda Adaloglou. The pairing of Adaloglou and ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year Chloé Cirotte make up the 28th-ranked doubles duo in the country. Also returning are senior Tamara Racine and juniors Alexandra Mikhailuk and Marta Falceto.
Â
Mississippi State has two newcomers joining its roster this season in junior Maddie McKee and freshman Alessia Tagliente. McKee made her Bulldog debut in the fall and Tagliente – a midyear enrollee from Italy - is expected to compete for the first time in both doubles and singles play against Jacksonville State.
Â
MSU enters the dual-match season after finishing the fall strong hosting its very own John Cade Invitational. As a team at the John Cade Invitational, the Bulldogs earned a 14-3 ledger in singles play to go along with a perfect 9-0 mark in doubles play.
