Robson called up by Tigers, set to become 63rd Diamond Dawg in Major League Baseball
STARKVILLE – The "Maple Hammer" has hit his way through to the big leagues.

After batting .316 with a .434 on-base percentage at the Triple-A level this season, former Mississippi State baseball outfielder Jacob Robson received the call-up to Major League Baseball, the Detroit Tigers announced Thursday (August 12).

Robson is the 63rd Diamond Dawg to reach MLB and joins Jack Kruger, his teammate on MSU's 2016 SEC Championship squad, as the second former Bulldog to earn his first call-up this season. Kruger made his MLB debut May 7 for the Los Angeles Angels.

Robson is the fifth former MSU student-athlete from the 2016 team to make his big-league debut, and the eighth member of the 2013 College World Series team. He is also set to become the 11th Diamond Dawg to make his first MLB appearance since 2016.

The Windsor, Ontario, Canada, native batted .321 during his redshirt junior season to help State capture its 11th league title. Robson was selected in the eighth round (235th overall) by Detroit during the 2016 MLB Draft, joining an 11-player Diamond Dawg draft class which stands tied with the 2019 team for the program record.

Detroit will face the Baltimore Orioles at 3:05 p.m. CT Thursday.
