Academic Awards Sweep

There were 18 Bulldogs named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA.
NEW ORLEANS – The Mississippi State track and field program earned both individual and team honors for their academic prowess on both the men's and women's side from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on July 22.

MSU had 18 individuals recognized for their academic achievements, being named USTFCCCA All-Academic. This included eight men and 10 women. Those 18 are Navasky Anderson, Leon Clarke, Sema'J Daniels, Sindri Guðmundsson, Jesse Henderson, Gabriel Moronta, Shamar Rose, Kenya Small, Sarah Blake, Rosealee Cooper, Kennedy Jackson, Maddy Kish, Peyton Mickelson, Sylvia Russell, Nykah Smith, Jhordyn Stallworth, Sydney Steely, and Amy Warren.

To be named All-Academic as individuals, they had to have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. They also must have competed in at least two semesters or three quarters at the institution. There is also additional athletic criteria pertaining to both the indoor and outdoor seasons for 2021.

In addition, the men's and women's teams collectively also were named All-Academic Teams. The men's team had a GPA of 3.37 while the women had a GPA of 3.52 under head coach Chris Woods and academic advisor Maxine Krol.

To be named an All-Academic Team, they had to have a cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the squad list for indoor and/or outdoor track and field at 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.Â

Eleven of the top-15 men's teams from the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships and 10 of the top-15 teams from the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships qualified for All-Academic distinction from the USTFCCCA. This included Mississippi State for the outdoor season.

The SEC had members from all 27 men's and women's track and field programs represented as All-Academic athletes. There was a total of 236 Southeastern Conference student-athletes named on the USTFCCCA lists.Â
