Smith Announces 2021-22 Golf Schedule
July 26, 2021 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State and head coach Dusty Smith have released the Bulldogs' 2021-22 men's golf schedule. State will play in 10 regular-season events before heading the SEC Championship in late April.
Â
The Bulldogs are set to compete in seven different states and will make an international trip to The Bahamas to open the spring portion of the schedule. State has won the team title at two events on the schedule within the last three years. MSU will host the Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship in West Point, Mississippi, to close the regular season on April 11-12.
Â
"We have put together a great schedule this year that will challenge us from a strength of field standpoint and give us the ability to play championship courses that will prepare us throughout the year," Smith said. "This schedule will give our student-athletes a chance to travel across the country and outside the United States as well. I am excited for the challenge that lies ahead with this team and look forward to taking the right and necessary daily steps."
Â
MSU opens the season in California at the Carmel Cup, played on the historic Pebble Beach Golf Links, on Sept. 3-5. State also competed here in the fall of both 2018 and 2019. Two weeks later, the Bulldogs will head to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the Scenic City Collegiate (Sept. 20-21).
Â
October will be a busy month for the program with three tournaments in four weeks. The month begins with a trip to South Bend, Indiana, for the Fighting Irish Classic (Oct. 4-5) before the Bulldogs get a preview of the postseason at the SEC Matchplay (Oct. 10-12) event in Birmingham, Alabama. The SEC's event will mirror the match play bracket portion of the league's championship in April with all 14 teams in attendance.
Â
To close the month, MSU is headed back to the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 30-31) where State won the team title in 2019.
Â
MSU opens the spring slate with a trip to the Bahamas where the Bulldogs will compete in the Albany Collegiate Invitational on the Albany Golf Course (Feb. 14-16). Next up is another event where MSU has returned home with a team title. State heads to the Desert Mountain Classic in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 4-5 and will play on the same course where the Bulldogs won the first team title under the leadership of Smith in 2019.
Â
State wraps up the month of March at the Louisiana Classic (March 14-15), hosted by Louisiana and the Mason Rudolph Championship (April 1-3), hosted by Vanderbilt at the familiar Vanderbilt Legends Club where MSU has played in two of the last three years.
Â
Following the regular-season finale at Mossy Oak, the SEC Championship will take place on April 20-24 in St. Simons Island, Georgia. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 15-18 at various sites around the country.
