The MSU track and field team's men finish their first day in Oregon.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Mississippi State track and field squad saw four events on the first day of the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing with five All-American titles claimed.
The 4x100m relay semifinal started the day off for the Bulldogs. They raced in heat three of the event and finished in 39.51 to come in 16th overall to become Second Team All-Americans. It was a lineup of Shamar Rose, Keldrick Edwards, Okheme Moore and Cameron Crump as the anchor.
Crump also competed in the long jump and finished in 13th with a mark of 7.53m to earn another Second Team All-American badge.
The school record holder, Jesse Henderson, crossed the finish line in 13.97 in the rain to finish in 19th in the 110m hurdles.
Associate head coach April Thomas continued her prowess, with all three of her javelin throwers finishing top-five in the event. Freshman DJ Jónsson finished as the national runner-up with a final mark of 76.73m. Tyriq Horsford finished in fourth at 75.95m, a season-best throw. Right behind him was Sindri Guðmundsson who came in fifth with a 75.61m mark. All three finish as First Team All-Americans. LSU's Tzuriel Pedigo jumped from seventh to first on his very last throw in the finals to overtake Jónsson for the title with a personal best.
Through day one of the Championships, Mississippi State's men are in second place in the overall team standings with 17 points.

Up Next – June 10
Day two of the NCAA Championships will have just one Bulldog competitor. Freshman Rosealee Cooper will compete in the 100m hurdle semifinals. The school record holder must finish in the top nine to advance to the finals of the event which will take place on Saturday.
She will be in the third heat, running in lane two. The event begins at 4:32 p.m. PT (6:32 p.m. CT) and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
