Opening StatementÂ
CD: "A very disappointing outcome. A lot of the older guys in our program, and a lot of the guys who have been here for four or five years and put so much into growing and building what Samford baseball is all about – to see them go out today is upsetting. It hurts, but the fight, the character and the resiliency that they showed today of battling through a lot of difficulties is what these guys are all about. It speaks to who they are as men. I couldn't be more proud of the way that they fought today."Â
Â
Q: How difficult is it when you aren't able to get the shutdown inning that you are looking for after your team was able to score?Â
CD: "Obviously, we didn't throw the ball well. [Campbell scored] 14 of their 16 runs in innings with walks, hit-by-pitches or errors. We made some mistakes. I felt like offensively, we outhit them. We just helped them more than they helped us today."Â
Â
Q: Talk about how your team continued to fight no matter what the situation was today.Â
CD: "Well, this is just a resilient group of guys. It should up throughout the regular season, it showed up in our conference tournament and it showed up today. We came up a hit or two short at the end. I assure you in our dugout when we loaded the bases, and we had two good guys rolling up to the plate – we were confident. Our dugout felt like we were about to score runs, and we were about to extend the game. Unfortunately for us, that just didn't happen today.Â

Q: Even though you didn't get the results you wanted this weekend, what does it mean for your program and your team to get back to the regionals?Â
SD: "I've been with these fourth and fifth-year guys for three years. We've created a bond together, and we could tell from the beginning this was going to be a tough year. We knew we were going to have to fight through everything. These guys have been through everything. We are sad to see it go out like this, but there's nothing to hang our head about for sure."Â
Â
Q: Talk about the fight and resilience the team showed today despite going down 12-4 after four innings.
SD: "This entire year, we've found ourselves in that position when we were down. We just have a bunch of guys in the dugout who are not willing to quit or give up. We were fighting no matter what. That really showed today, but unfortunately it just didn't come out our way."
