Opening StatementÂ
JH: "Hats off to VCU – they dominated us in every way, shape and form tonight. They out-coached us, out-prepared us, out-pitched us, out-hit us and out-defended us. They're certainly hot. They're very talented, and they dominated us tonight. Obviously, disappointed in the way that we performed, but we'll find a way to wipe the slate clean tonight and come back and compete tomorrow. I do want to give a tip of the cap to Ty Babin for hitting his first career home run tonight, and to Cameron O'Brien out of our bullpen there at the end. [O'Brien's] first postseason appearance for the redshirt freshman. I thought he composed himself really well. Other than that, we didn't have a lot of highlights."
Â
Q: What was your message to your team after the game?
JH:Â "The message is the same that it is if we would've won. The outcome of tonight's game has nothing to do with what tomorrow's performance is going to look like. Each game, each moment that we get the opportunity to put on the uniform is its own moment. We can't allow those moments to leak into the next because that's going to adversely affect the outcome, probably. Just like when we have big wins and big losses, we talk about trying to flush it at midnight. Don't waste that pain. Our guys are in pain getting on that bus tonight, getting our tails whipped and our coaches as well. We're not going to waste that pain. We're going to let that pain fuel the fire a little bit, but at midnight, we flip the page and turn it over to Samford. We need to try to figure out a way to beat Casey Dunn and those guys tomorrow."

Q: How long do you let that fire burn a bit before you guys can get focused for the next one?
CW: "That's a good question. It's tough, but that's how it works. We had the same regional format for our conference tournament. So, we had plenty of times where we had to flush it regardless of if we won or lost. We've been in this situation before, fighting for first place in our conference. I'm not too worried about it. Like Coach Haire kind of said, it's going to hurt, but there's nothing you can do – regardless if we lost by one run or 20 runs. The losers of each game today play each other at 2 p.m. tomorrow. It's pretty simple. You got to be ready to go tomorrow, it's win or go home. I know our guys will be ready. This one hurt, but we'll be ready to go."
Â
Q: You were on the 2019 team that went to East Carolina and was in the winner's bracket, this is a much different feeling now. How would you describe the adversity being a game away from elimination as the Big South champs?
CW:Â "I think the difference this year is we had 11 COVID seniors that chose to come back, including myself. We know this might be our last chance putting on the uniform in any sort of aspect. So, getting us ready to play and being mentally ready to go and compete is not going to be an issue. It's different that we're in the loser's bracket, but we're going to prepare the same just like any other game. Like I said, this one definitely hurts, but we're already excited to play tomorrow. Got a quick turnaround, but we'll be ready to go."
