Cooper Advances, Prelims Wrapped
May 29, 2021 | Track & Field
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mississippi State track and field wrapped up the final day of the East Region Prelims at UNF with the new school record holder Rosealee Cooper  qualifying for Nationals in the 100m hurdles.
Â
In the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles, Cooper ran a 12.98 to come in 12th, which meant she would advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene as a freshman.
Â
In the high jump, Asia Poe competed to a height of 1.72m. She would finish tied for 28th overall at that height.
Â
Freshman Jhordyn Stallworth threw the discus to a distance of 46.18m to finish in 27th place overall.
Â
The triple jump had two Bulldogs competing: Alexis Farley and Amy Warren. Farley finished tied for 16th with her best jump being a wind-aided 12.97m. Warren came in 46th with her best jump being a wind-aided 11.50m.Â
Â
In the 4x100m relay was Jada McDougle, Nykah Smith, Rosealee Cooper, and Faith Gilbert. They finished in 13th, just one place beyond the qualifying marks at 44.50, a season-best.
Â
Sylvia Russell had a personal-best of 10:14.15 in the 3000m steeplechase to finish in 17th, while Sydney Steely finished in 10:14.43 to come in 19th.
Â
The second heat of the men's 4x400m on Saturday was interrupted by the stadium lights shutting off. The NCAA ruled that they would re-run that heat on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT, however, as the teams were warming up, they were told it would not be happening. An obvious disappointment as four talented young men did not see their Championship hopes come to fruition.
