May 27, 2021 | Track & Field
She advanced to the quarterfinals for the 100m hurdles.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On day one for the Mississippi State track and field women but day two of the NCAA East Regional Prelims, freshman Rosealee Cooper broke the school record in the 100m hurdles en route to Saturday's quarterfinals of the event.
Cooper qualified for the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles with the school record-breaking time of 12.93w. She finished second in her heat and eighth overall, advancing her to the next round. The previous school record of 12.97 was held by Keisha Wallace and was set in April of 2012.
Sarah Blake started the meet for the women, finishing in 15th overall at 49.01m, narrowly missing the shot to go to Oregon. She was a part of the second flight out of three. Her third-place position was overtaken in the last flight.
Shayla Broughton competed in both the long jump and the 100m hurdles, but unfortunately did not make it to the next round. She was just four slots out from qualifying for the hurdles' quarterfinal with Cooper, coming in 28th. She came in 41st overall for the long jump.
A record-breaking season for Maddy Kish came to an end with her finishing 45th in the pole vault at 3.77m.
Jada McDougle missed advancing to the quarterfinals of the 400m by one spot: specifically, by 00.14 seconds. She ran to a new personal-best in the first round, finishing in 25th in 53.48. That new PB was also good for fifth all-time at State, surpassing Andrea Ingleton's 53.62 time from 2000 for the spot.
Ending the night for the Dawgs was the 400m hurdles, where Katie Martin finished 31st overall. She ran to a new personal-best of 59.41, which also made her the No. 5 all-time at Mississippi State for her event.
