Ward Named To SEC Community Service Team
May 25, 2021 | Soccer
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State soccer's AK Ward has been named to the SEC Community Service Team, the conference announced Tuesday.
Â
During Ward's four years in Starkville, she was active in the community and surrounding area.
Â
For three years, she volunteered at Legacy Hospice where she accumulated more than 150 hours of service. There she visited with patients, helped with office administrative duties such as paperwork, and crafted goodies and goody bags for the patients during holidays and other various times, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
She also spent a considerable amount of time at the Oktibbeha County Hospital (OCH) where she logged more than 80 hours. Ward answered phone calls and assisted both visitors and patients in navigating the hospital.
Â
Continuing her interest in medicine, she accumulated over 60 hours with the Healthy Dawgs organization on campus. She compiled information and data for the group regarding health topics pertaining to the collegiate population. In addition, she set up booths and tables and facilitated games and activities to help promote the information she compiled.
Â
A lover of animals, she had volunteered with the Humane Society of North Texas in high school, then carried that service into Starkville where she clocked over 25 hours with the Oktibbeha County Humane Society. She bathed and walked the dogs at the organization, while also helping to maintain the facility overall.
Â
Ward recently graduated at the end of April with her degree in Kinesiology and is now working at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, as a Patient Care Technician (PCT).
Â
The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community through superior service efforts.
