Logan Leads Second-Round Effort At Cle Elum Regional
May 18, 2021 | Men's Golf
CLE ELUM, Wash. – Hunter Logan was Mississippi State's best golf on Tuesday, firing six birdies on the day as he led the Bulldogs to a 10-shot improvement from their opening round.
Â
The front nine proved a challenge for State as the team sat at 4-over at the turn. But MSU cleaned things up on the back nine and collected nine birdies with all but one golfer in the lineup shooting bar or better on the final half of the course.
Â
"I'm really proud of our fight today as a team," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I thought we did a better job of having five guys in the round the whole day. We faced about every weather condition possible today, and the guys did a good job of handling those conditions. We have a group of high-character men that will never quit. They play for each other and have a lot of pride in what they do. We need to be at our very best tomorrow. Golf is a crazy game, and you never know what might happen. I know we will be fighting until the last putt drops."
Â
Logan finished the day at 2-under 69 and climbed 28 spots on the leaderboard on Tuesday. It was the sophomore's second sub-70 round of the year. Behind him, Ford Clegg shot 1-over on the day and sits at even par through two rounds, which is good for a tie for 17th place. Austin Fulton and Loïc Ettlin, who was substituted into the lineup on Tuesday, both shot 3-over.
Â
As a team, MSU climbed two spots on the leaderboard. Sacramento State has had to drop out of the regional due to COVID-19 protocols.
Â
MSU will play the final round of the regional at 11:15 a.m. CT on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will be paired with golfers from Long Beach State No. 20 Arizona on Hole 10.
