Clegg Earns First Team All-SEC Honors

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State junior Ford Clegg has been selected to the All-SEC First Team by the league's coaches, the conference office announced Friday.

Clegg is State's first All-SEC player under head coach Dusty Smith and MSU's first first-team selection since 2014 (Chad Ramey).

"I couldn't be happier for Ford and this honor," Smith said. "This is a big deal to have a First Team All-SEC player in this program. He has been coachable and has shown growth over these past few years, and we are all very proud of Ford."

Clegg won an individual title for the second year in a row, tying for first place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. At that tournament, he tied the school-record with a 198 54-hole total, which also marked the lowest three-day total by a Bulldog since 2014-15.

He ranks fifth in the SEC in stroke average (70.86) entering NCAA Tournament play, and he was one of five SEC men's golfers with a round of 63 or better this season, firing each of State's four lowest rounds on the year.

Clegg finished in the top 10 at five of State's nine tournaments and shot par or better in 16 of his 27 rounds on the season. He was one of 11 SEC golfers to finish the year with a negative average versus par (-0.15).

The Birmingham, Alabama, native will lead MSU in the NCAA Tournament next week as the Bulldogs begin play at the Cle Elum Regional in Cle Elum, Washington, on Monday, May 17.
