MaKayla Waldner earned a Second Team All-Region selection in 2019.
KANSAS CITY – Mississippi State soccer forward Onyi Echegini was named to the United Soccer Coaches Association's Third Team All-Southeast Region, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
With her selection to the All-Region team, Echegini is now eligible to become USC All-American in the next round of voting.Â
Â
The sophomore from London, England, was the leading goal-scorer, shooter and had the most shots-on-goal for the Bulldogs, as well as was the co-leader in points for the squad with Monigo Karnley. She finished the season with 36 shots, 15 of them on goal, and five goals with one of them being game-winning. She scored two goals in the same match for the first time in her collegiate career against Louisiana on February 28. Echegini also notched her first career assist this season against Ole Miss, assisting Karnley against the Rebels.
Â
Echegini had 1,172 minutes in the 2020 season, starting in all 13 matches of the season. The rising-sophomore is an obvious rising-star for the Bulldogs, as she's had two-straight seasons with four or more goals.
Â
In 2019, MaKayla Waldner earned a Second Team All-Region selection, with Carly Mauldin earning Third Team in 2018. The 2017 season saw Catalina Perez, Mallory Eubanks and Waldner be named first, second and third, respectively. There have now been 10 total Bulldogs selected to United Soccer Coaches All-Region squads.
