Men’s Golf Completes First Round At The Collegiate
April 05, 2021 | Men's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State's men's golf program completed the first round of its final tournament of the regular season on Monday, carding a 10-over 294 at The Collegiate Invitational.
Garrett Johnson and Hunter Logan led the way for MSU with both carding 1-over 72 for the day. Johnson fired a team-best three birdies, and Logan shot two.
On the par-3 eighth hole, Austin Fulton and Ford Clegg both sank their ball in two strokes. Clegg and Fulton shot 4-over for the round.
"I thought we did a nice job of hanging in there on a day that could have gotten away from us," head coach Dusty Smith said. "Hunter and Garrett were steady all day and did a good job of staying patient and understanding the day. Looking back on the round, we left a lot of shots out there by not doing the little things well and losing our focus a bit. We need to embrace the opportunity ahead of us tomorrow and have excitement for the day."
MSU returns to the course at 7:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday morning. The Bulldogs are chasing seven ranked teams including No. 9 Auburn (+5, 289), No. 10 Vanderbilt (+3, 287) and No. 4 Clemson +2, 286). No. 22 North Florida leads the field at 1-under 283 through one round.
