TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In a contest featured with a very tight doubles point and four three-set affairs in singles, the 15th-ranked Mississippi State men's tennis team fell 5-2 to No. 35 Alabama in a nighttime road affair at the Alabama Tennis Stadium Friday.
With the setback, State fell to 12-7, 2-6 in the SEC, on the season while Alabama improved to 12-8, 3-5 in SEC play. The Tide victory broke a 10-match Bulldog winning streak in the series between the teams.
The Bulldogs would drop an intense double point early on to start things off. Court 2 would finish first, where the Alabama duo of Gabriel Diaz Freire and Zhe Zhou held off State's duo of Giovanni Oradini and Stedman Strickland 7-5. Evening the doubles score for the Bulldogs would be court 1, where the No. 52 nationally-ranked MSU tandem of Florian Broska and Gregor Ramskogler upset UA's No. 25 duo of Patrick Kaukovalta and Riccardo Roberto, also by a 7-5 margin.
