Henderson Tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week
April 13, 2021 | Track & Field
This is the third-straight SEC weekly award for the Bulldogs.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State track and field's Jesse Henderson has been named this week's SEC Freshman of the Week, the Conference announced Tuesday.
Â
Henderson ran in the 110m hurdles over the weekend at Alabama's Crimson Tide Invitational and finished in third overall with a time of 13.71.
That finish shaved 0.01 seconds off his previous best of 13.72 to update his already-owned freshman record in the event at MSU.
Â
The Mississippi native currently resides in the No. 2 slot for the all-time outdoor performances at State, behind only Ro'Derick Spears who had a best of 13.65 in the 110m hurdles in 2018.
Â
This is the third-straight weekly award the Bulldogs have earned from the SEC, with Sindri Guðmundsson being named Field Athlete of the Week in the first week of competition for his javelin throw of 77.77m, and DJ Jónsson being named Freshman of the Week in the second week of competition for his javelin throw of 77.25m.Â
Â
Henderson and the track and field team will compete next at Auburn's War Eagle Invite, set for April 16-17 while four distance runners compete at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia on the same dates.
