Bulldogs Shoot 8-Under in Second Round At Old Waverly

WEST POINT, Miss. – Mississippi State's men's golf team showed excellent effort going in the second round of the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship. The Bulldogs shot an 8-under 280 as a team and find themselves in seventh place with a two-day total of 567 (9-under).

All five of the Bulldogs in the lineup shot even on Hole 1 and four of them birdied Hole 2. Freshman Loïc Ettlin shot even-par through Hole 8 and birdied two holes for the day to end the round with a 2-under 70. Senior Garrett Johnson made a strong comeback, jumping 30 spots on the leaderboard to land in a tie with Ettlin for 18th.

Ford Clegg played a steady game on Saturday, carding an equal number of birdies and bogeys to finish the day at even par. The junior finished the round in eighth place.

"I thought we played some steady golf today," head coach Dusty Smith said. "Garrett, Loïc and Hunter played some big rounds for our team today. Tomorrow will be a great opportunity for us and we need to be excited for that."

Freshman Hunter Logan finished the round tied for 44th after collecting five birdies for a 2-under 70. Senior Austin Fulton shot two birdies on his way to an even-par front nine but shot three-over on the back nine to finish tied for 67th.

State's individual players, William Wann and Cameron Clarke, are tied for 30th entering the tournament's final round. Wann shot five birdies on Saturday on his way to a career-low round with a 4-under 68. Clarke birdied three holes on the front nine and one on the back nine to finish at 3-under 69.

Freshman Pedro Cruz Silva shot his first eagle in his second round of collegiate play. He finished the day at 3-over. Also carding a 3-over, junior Ben Nelson tied for 55th place with two birdies for the day. Junior Austin Vukovits carded three birdies on his way to a 2-over 74. Senior Griffin Agent shot three birdies and was 1-under through the front nine but finished the round at 1-over after a bogey on Hole 15.

"It's going to take all five of us doing our jobs and focusing on our processes in order to be successful," Smith said. "I am excited to watch this group compete tomorrow and continue to grow as a team."

Logan will tee off the final round of the Old Waverly Collegiate for the Bulldogs on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. CT. Attendance is free.
