State Men’s Tennis Welcomes No. 3 TCU Friday, Memphis/Jackson State Sunday

STARKVILLE – After posting two more solid victories last weekend, the Mississippi State men's tennis team is set to host No. 3 TCU Friday, February 5, and Memphis and Jackson State Sunday, February 7, at MSU's Rula Tennis Pavilion. The Bulldogs (5-0) will face the Horned Frogs (4-0) at 4 p.m. CT Friday. The bout with Memphis (2-0) is slated for 9 a.m. Sunday, followed by the JSU (0-1) affair at 3 p.m.

MSU In The Oracle ITA Rankings…
For the first time this season, the Mississippi State men's tennis team received votes in the latest ITA rankings, sitting just outside the top 25 of the poll released Wednesday. In the ITA national singles rankings, State is led by senior and two-time All-American Giovanni Oradini at No. 36 in the country. Following right behind is junior Florian Broska at No. 87 nationally in singles. In doubles, the Bulldogs have two duos currently ranked with Broska and freshman Nicolas Ocana earning the nation's No. 28 spot. Rounding out the rankings is the duo of Alberto Colas and Gregor Ramskogler, coming in at 47th nationally.
Know The Foe: TCU
Third-ranked TCU will enter Friday's match with a 4-0 overall mark. The Horned Frogs opened the season with a 4-1 triumph at Tulsa. Two weekends ago in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, TCU swept Denver and Oklahoma in Fort Worth, punching its ticket to the 2021 ITA National Indoor Championships later this month at Illinois. In their latest outing this past Sunday, the Horned Frogs notched their biggest win of the season thus far, taking down No. 6 Baylor 4-1 in Waco. TCU has four players currently ranked nationally in singles, led by Alastair Gray, who is currently ranked No. 21 nationally in singles. Luc Fomba comes in at No. 47 while Frogs Sander Jong and Jacob Fearnly are No. 113 and No. 125, respectively. In doubles, Gray and Fearnly make up the nation's No. 15-ranked tandem while Jong and Tadeas Paroulek are No. 24.
TCU holds a tight 4-3 lead in the all-time series with MSU. The Bulldogs and Horned Frogs last met in 2019 in Starkville with TCU coming out on top with a close 4-2 decision in the NCAA Round of 16 matchup.
Know The Foe: Memphis
Memphis is 2-0 overall this season. The Tigers swept Bellarmine 7-0 to open their spring slate on Jan. 17. This past Monday, the Tigers traveled to Oxford where they upset No. 17 Ole Miss 4-3. Memphis is led at the top of its lineup by James Story and Jan Pallares.
State leads the series with Memphis 17-13 (since 1969). The Bulldogs have won the last nine meetings with the Tigers, the most recent coming in 2016 in Champaign, Illinois, in the first round of the NCAA Championship.
Know The Foe: Jackson State
Jackson State is 0-1 overall this season after dropping a 6-1 affair to Jacksonville State last Friday in its season opener. The Tigers are paced by Fransisco Vargas and Fritz Jacobs.
State leads the series with Jackson State 4-0. The teams last met in Starkville in 2015 with the Bulldogs posting a 7-0 shutout.
Need To Know…
The Bulldogs defeated Tulane 5-2 at home this past Sunday. After dropping the doubles point, the Bulldogs rallied to win four singles matches in a row with Alberto Colas providing the clincher at the No. 4 spot. Also producing victories in the match were Bulldogs Giovanni Oradini, Florian Broska, Nemanja Malesevic and Gregor Ramskogler.
Next Up For MSU…
After this weekend's action, the Bulldogs will welcome South Alabama next Saturday, February 13. Following that affair, State opens 2021 SEC action, hosting Arkansas on Friday, February 19.
