Taylor Named to SEC Community Service Team
February 25, 2021 | Women's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A leader both on and off the court, Myah Taylor has been active in the Starkville community since arriving at Mississippi State. This year, she was recognized as a member of the SEC Community Service Team.
Despite being limited to opportunities due to COVID, Taylor was involved in two community service events this year. The first was a video recording that was sent to encourage frontline workers for their service during the pandemic. In addition, she participated in multiple trips to local hospitals during the last two years to support workers and patients. The second event was an Auxiliary Reading Railroad. Taylor partnered with organizations around Mississippi to read to children. Since 2019, she's recorded nearly 10 hours of community service.
On the court, Taylor has been one of the best point guards in the country this season, earning finalist spot for the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award. She's averaging a career-best 9.4 point per game to go along with 4.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
Between her scoring and assists, Taylor has been a major factor in State's offense this season. In fact, she has accounted for more than 25 percent of MSU's total scoring in eight contests, including two games during SEC play when she has accounted for 50 percent of the team's scoring.
The Olive Branch, Miss., native ranks 25th in the country and leads the SEC with a 2.69 assist/turnover ratio. Last year, she ranked eighth nationally and led the league with a 2.80 ratio. Defensively, she leads the Bulldogs in steals (26) and boasts five blocks. She has recorded multiple steals in eight games.
