Bulldogs Complete Day One of Indoor Conference Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mississippi State track and field completed the first day of the SEC Indoor Championships in Fayetteville on Thursday.
Through day one, the women are tied at No. 8 with Auburn with six points.
The pentathlon competed first, with Shayla Broughton starting off on a high note, finishing first in the 60m hurdles with a new personal-best time of 8.32. Asia Poe would also run to a personal-best of 8.62, finishing seventh. Aley Woodberry had a personal best of her own in the high jump, finishing with a mark of 1.62m. At the end of the five events, Broughton came in fifth with 4,001 points, Poe in seventh with 3,786, and Woodberry in ninth at 3,538 points.
The men's DMR came in 11th place in 9:51.32 with the relay squad of Kenya Small, Sema'J Daniels, Navasky Anderson and Giacomo DeLuca. That time replaced the No. 5 DMR time in school history.
The women's DMR also finished in 11th place with the team of Sylvia Russell, San'Toria Harris, Ashley Melcherts, and Sydney Steely finishing in 11:33.88.
In the weight throw, Francesca Chambers had a mark just under her personal best at 18.04m, coming in 14th place. Daniel Pepper had a final mark of 15.23m, placing him in 21st.

The first distance event of the day will be the men's 5000m, featuring Chandler Underwood. To close out the men's half of the day will be Daniels and Shamar Rose in the men's 200m semifinal.
To open it up for the women at 5:30 p.m. will be Shayla Broughton, Helen Claire Edmonds and Asia Poe in the high jump. Next up is Peyton Mickelson in the pole vault, followed by Broughton, Kennedy Jackson and Amy Warren in the long jump. To start the Bulldogs off on the track, Sydney Steely will be competing in the semifinals of the mile. Just after will be Rosealee Cooper in the 60m hurdle semifinal and Faith Gilbert in the 60m semifinal. Finishing off the day will be Sylvia Russell in the 5000m and Gilbert in the 200m.

The second day of the Championships will see a good variation in events, with both halves of the day being streamed on the SECN+. The men will kick the competition off for the day at 1:45 p.m. with Keshun Byrd and Jesse Henderson participating in the long jump. Just after, Henderson will compete in the semifinals of the 60m hurdles. Two weeks ago, Henderson wrote his name at the top of the record books with a record-breaking 7.74 time at the USC Indoor Open.Continuing the day, Sema'J Daniels will run in the semifinal of the 400m.
