No. 24 MSU Men’s Tennis Heads To New Orleans To Face Tulane Sunday

STARKVILLE – After a chilly week at home and a postponed match due to weather, the No. 24 Mississippi State men's tennis team (8-1) is set for its first road test of 2021, traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana, to take on Tulane (6-2) on Sunday. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. CT at City Park Tennis Center.
MSU In The Oracle ITA Rankings…
The Bulldogs are currently ranked 24th nationally as a team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in this week's latest poll (February 17). In the ITA national singles rankings, State is led by senior and two-time All-American Giovanni Oradini at No. 36 in the country. Following right behind is junior Florian Broska at No. 87 nationally in singles. In doubles, the Bulldogs have two duos currently ranked with Broska and Nicolas Ocana earning the nation's No. 28 spot. Rounding out the rankings is the duo of Alberto Colas and Gregor Ramskogler, coming in at 47th nationally.
Know The Foe: Tulane
Tulane, currently receiving votes in this week's ITA Top 25 poll, is 6-2 overall this season. The Green Wave is currently on a three-match win streak, which includes road wins over LSU (5-2) and Florida State (4-0), and Miami (6-1 in Tallahassee, Fla.). TU is led by Hamish Stewart, who is currently ranked No. 40 nationally in singles, and Ewan Moore at No. 53.
State leads the series with Tulane 15-7 (since 1969). The teams met previously this season in Starkville (Jan. 31), with the Bulldogs coming out on top in a tightly-contested 5-2 victory.

The Bulldogs ousted South Alabama 5-2 this past Saturday in Starkville in their most recent outing. After State secured the doubles point, Davide Tortora ousted the Jaguars' Coutinho 6-3, 6-3 on court 6 for a 2-1 lead. Finishing immediately after and pushing the Bulldog lead to 3-1 would be true freshman Carles Hernandez, who fired past USA's Martin Bugaj at the No. 5 position to claim a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Clinching the match for State would be Colas who battled back from down a set to USA's Collard on court 4 to cruise into the win column with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 three-set triumph.
Next Up For MSU…
Following Sunday's affair, the Bulldogs stay on the road next weekend, as they will head to Knoxville, Tenn., to face No. 3 Tennessee on Friday, February 26, before heading to Athens, Ga., on Sunday, February 28, battling No. 12 Georgia.
