Mississippi State Men’s Tennis Set To Welcome South Alabama Saturday

STARKVILLE – After posting two more victories this past Sunday, the Mississippi State men's tennis team is set to welcome South Alabama to campus Saturday, February 13. The Bulldogs (7-1) will face the Jaguars (1-2) at 1 p.m. CT Saturday afternoon indoors at the Rula Tennis Pavilion.

MSU In The Oracle ITA Rankings…
The Mississippi State men's tennis team received votes in the most recent ITA rankings (released Feb. 3), sitting just outside the top 25 of the poll. In the ITA national singles rankings, State is led by senior and two-time All-American Giovanni Oradini at No. 36 in the country. Following right behind is junior Florian Broska at No. 87 nationally in singles. In doubles, the Bulldogs have two duos currently ranked with Broska and freshman Nicolas Ocana earning the nation's No. 28 spot. Rounding out the rankings is the duo of Alberto Colas and Gregor Ramskogler, coming in at 47th nationally.
Know The Foe: South Alabama
South Alabama will enter Saturday's match with a 1-2 mark after defeating Nicholls State 6-1 at home on Tuesday. Prior to that contest, the Jaguars fell in close contests on the road at Florida State (Jan. 22 – 4-2) and Florida Atlantic (Feb. 7 – 4-3). USA is led at the top of its lineup by Julian Evrard who is 3-0 at the top two singles positions this season. Seniors Loic Cloes and Clement Marzol are currently ranked 52nd nationally in doubles.
The Bulldogs currently hold a 15-7 series lead over the Jaguars and have claimed the last four meetings between the teams. The last battle came two years ago in Starkville when the Bulldogs claimed a 4-0 victory in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Team Championship.
Need To Know…
The Bulldogs closed out last weekend's play with a 2-1 mark at home. After dropping a gritty 4-1 affair to No. 3 TCU Friday, MSU rebounded on Sunday, taking down Memphis in a 4-2 battle before sweeping Jackson State 7-0.
Next Up For MSU…
After taking on South Alabama, MSU will prepare to open 2021 SEC action, hosting Arkansas on Friday, February 19.

- Mississippi State is playing its 98th season of men's tennis, with Matt Roberts in his seventh season at the helm.
- The Bulldogs sit at 7-1 overall after earning their fourth shutout of the season with a 7-0 victory over Jackson State this past Sunday.
- In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Feb. 3, State received votes for the first time this season, sitting just outside the nation's Top 25.
- Under head coach Matt Roberts, MSU is 122-40 overall in his seven seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs.
- Roberts is 70-11 at home, 7-1 in 2021.
- After earning back-to-back singles victories and going 3-1 overall this past weekend, MSU's Florian Broska was named Co-SEC Player Of The Week.

- As a team, State is an impressive 50-15 (38-7 singles, 12-8 doubles) in all dual matches it has played in 2021.
