Bulldogs Add Second Nationally-Ranked Pitcher
December 18, 2021 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Reis Beuerlein, a top-25 pitcher in the class, signed with Mississippi State softball in November. Once Beuerlein enrolls, she will become just the fifth Bulldog softball player from the state of Arizona and the first since Shelby Fisher (2010-13).
Â
"Reis brings a tremendous upside to our pitching staff and will complement the others well with her ability to mix pitches and speeds," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "She is a feisty competitor that brings energy to the circle and our defense will love to play behind her. I am excited for her to work with Coach Josh and continue to elevate her skillset."
Â
Beuerlein is the No. 25 pitcher nationally and ranked No. 68 overall in the class by Extra Innings Softball. She played at Pinnacle High School where her team was the 2019 6A state runners-up and 6A third-place team in 2021. In her junior season, she pitched to a 2.72 ERA with 146 strikeouts. She also hit and was named Pinnacle's MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in addition to first team all-region and second-team all-conference honors as a pitcher.
Â
In her freshman season, Beuerlein earned second team all-region honors with a 1.26 ERA and 104 strikeouts while helping Pinnacle win the Desert Valley regional championship.
Â
"Reis has elite spin rates that you just don't see anywhere. She can work up and down with high spin efficiency and is a fierce competitor," assistant coach Josh Johnson added. "She's had the ball in a lot of high-leverage situations both as a starter and as a reliever. We are excited to get her in and see what we can do."
Â
Beuerlein played travel ball with the Arizona Storm and placed 17th at PGF Nationals in 2021. She is a three-time member of the Arizona 6A All-Academic Team and a member of the National Honor Society.
Â
"I chose Mississippi State because playing softball in the SEC has always been a dream of mine. I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere and traditions of the school because there really is no other place like MSU," Beuerlein said. "The coaching staff is incredible. Between the family-like environment they have created in the program and the plans they have for Mississippi State softball, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of."
Â
Mississippi State softball signed six student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 10. State's class was ranked No. 17 by Extra Innings Softball, the highest-ranked class under Ricketts. Five of the six signees were ranked among the nation's top 100 players. The Bulldogs will continue to release an in-depth look at each signee throughout the month of December.
