Rogers Selected Offensive Player Of The Week
November 15, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – Following his record-setting performance in Mississippi State's comeback victory at Auburn, quarterback Will Rogers was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week by the Athlon Sports and Southeastern Conference on Monday.
Â
The Athlon Sports Offensive Player of the Week honor is the second national award Rogers has won this week. He was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday.
Â
It is the third time Rogers has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week and the seventh time a Bulldog has been recognized by the league this season. Rogers also earned the honor following his efforts in wins against Texas A&M and Kentucky.
Â
Rogers set a new school record by throwing six touchdown passes, including five in the second half. The sophomore from Brandon, Mississippi completed 44 of 55 passes for 415 and connected with 10 different receivers in helping the Bulldogs extend their bowl streak to 12 consecutive appearances.
Â
It was Rogers' fourth 400-plus yard passing game of the season and his 29 touchdowns through the air this year ties him with Dak Prescott for the most in a single-season in MSU history. He is also 72 yards shy of passing Prescott's single-season passing record of 3,793 yards set in 2015.
Â
Rogers has completed 407 of 538 passes (75.7 percent) for an SEC-leading 3,722 yards this fall. He has already established a new school benchmark for completions in a season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder leads the nation in completion percentage and tops all Power 5 quarterbacks in passing yardage.
Rogers was also selected as a finalist for the Conerly Trophy on Monday, which is presented annually to Mississippi's top college football player.
