November 10, 2021 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's men's golf program added three signees to the Maroon and White family on National Signing Day.
Head coach Dusty Smith is pleased to announce the additions of Garrett Endicott (San Antonio, Texas), Ben Loveard (Luton, England) and Drew Wilson (Potts Camp, Mississippi).
"We are very excited to announce the signing of Garrett, Drew and Ben," Smith said. "We put a lot of work in on identifying players that fit what we are trying to do here at Mississippi State, and that is to excel in the classroom, in our community and on the golf course. These three young men love golf and have big dreams of bringing championships to Starkville. They will be a huge part of elevating our program and adding to the great tradition we have here at Mississippi State. Garrett, Drew, and Ben will be great additions to our family and their leadership qualities will help our program tremendously.
Endicott is the No. 5 player out of the state of Texas in the class of 2022 with plenty of American Junior Golf Association experience. In his AJGA career, he has recorded four top-three, eight top-five, 10 top-10 and 12 top-20 finishes. He also has an AJGA Championship under his belt, winning the AJGA Junior at River Crossing. Endicott is No. 26 among members of the 2022 class in the Rolex AJGA rankings and No. 48 overall. The National Junior Golf Scoreboard lists him as No. 21 in his class and No. 31 overall.
"Garrett Endicott is a top player in the country, and he has proved that through his junior golf career," Smith said. "He will bring a level of maturity to our team, and he is a player that can have an immediate impact for us. Garrett is a very tough, smart and disciplined golfer that I believe is going to have a lasting impact at Mississippi State."
Coming from overseas, Loveard is the third-ranked player out of England in the nation's U18 rankings and a member of the English National Team. He is the No. 12 junior in the European Golf Rankings (U18) and has already achieved a place in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Loveard won the 2021 Faldo Series Europe Grand Final and posted three top-five finishes in highly distinguished tournaments. He tied for fifth place at the 2021 British Amateur and finished fourth at both the 2021 Lagonda Trophy and the 2020 Carris Trophy.
"Ben is a player with worldwide experience. In the past two years, he has come on strong in both junior golf and amateur golf," Smith said. "He is a very dedicated golfer that continues to get better every year. His attention to detail, and hard work to the game of golf is something I admired in the recruiting process with him. While recruiting him, the one thing that really stood out to us was his Golf I.Q. He is a very smart player and knows how to the play game the right way which has led him to have a lot of success over in Europe."
Wilson, a Mississippi native gained high recognition in the Magnolia State. He is the state's No. 2 ranked player in the class of 2022. According to the National Junior Golf Scoreboard, Wilson is No. 61 in the class nationally. He was named the Southeaster Junior Golf Tour (SJGT) Player of the Year in 2020. He picked up a top-five finish at the 2020 Notah Begay Junior and top-10 finishes at the 2021 Future Masters and at the 2021 Bubba Conlee Junior.
"Drew is a player that I have recruited since the day I got to Mississippi State," Smith said. "It is my goal as a coach to get the top players in the state of Mississippi in our program. Drew is a very talented golfer that has all the tools to be a high impact player at Mississippi State. He has had tremendous success in the junior golf world, and we can't wait to get him on campus."
