Perry Earns First Career SEC Weekly Honor

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State midfielder Ally Perry has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Perry recorded her third career assist with a corner service on the game-winning goal in State's 1-0 win against Kentucky on Thursday night. She leads MSU in assists and leads all Bulldog freshmen in points this year.

"Ally has been improving throughout the course of the season. She has worked incredibly hard to show the quality she possesses," head coach James Armstrong said.

The Kentucky match was the Frisco, Texas, native's fifth straight start and second game in a row with a point. For the season, she's played in eight of 10 matches with five starts. She's taken 14 shots in 533 total minutes.

Perry's recognition marks the fourth time in four years that a Bulldog has been chosen as the league's Freshman of the Week. Bulldogs had earned just three Freshman of the Week honors prior to the 2018 season. MSU has seen at least one player earn weekly honors from the SEC in seven straight seasons and has picked up a pair of honors in four of the last five years.

Mississippi State (3-4-3, 1-2-1 SEC) closes a three-match homestand against No. 13 Auburn (8-3-0, 2-2-0 SEC) on Thursday night. Kickoff against the Tigers is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, and the match will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
