Women’s Golf Closes Out Fall Season at Old Waverly
October 27, 2021 | Women's Golf
West Point, Miss. – Mississippi State women's golf played the final round of the fall season on Wednesday at their home event, The Ally. In the final round, MSU carded a 3-under par (285) to finish in fourth-place. After 54 holes, the Bulldogs posted a team score of 7-under (857), the sixth lowest score after 54-holes in team history.
"As a whole, I'm really proud of this team," head coach Charlie Ewing said. "I think there is a lot of character on this team to be really proud of. We had a lot of really good flashes and played some really good golf throughout the fall semester. What's really exciting as we head into the spring semester is that we finished on a pretty strong note. Our last two rounds here at 'The Ally' were strong. Our final round was one that showed a lot of toughness and character. It's not easy to turn in a 3-under round after being four or five over at one point during the day, so I'm really proud of that. There is a lot of momentum that we are taking to the spring, especially on the team-building side. We have a really special team and I am just so proud of the girls."
State was led by freshman Julia Lopez Ramirez who cemented her third top-10 finish of her young career. Lopez Ramirez carded a third-round score of 3-under (69) to finish tied for sixth with a three-day total of 7-under (69). Lopez Ramirez sunk the third most birdies of the event with 15.
Blair Stockett used a blistering stretch of four straight birdies on holes 12-15 to climb up the leaderboard two spots in the final round. Stockett carded a three-day total of 2-under (214) to finish tied for 11th. Hannah Levi used an eagle on hole 15 in which she sunk an 8-foot putt to finish tied for 11th for the event with a score of 2-under (214). Levi's Eagle on 15 started a trend for her group, as Florida's Jackie Lucena and Alabama's Polly Maker all earned an Eagle on 15.
Ashley Gilliam carded a third-round score of 1-over (73) to bring her three-day total to 7-over (223) to finish tied for 39th while Abbey Daniel finished tied for 62nd with a score of 15-over.
Competing individually, Lauren Miller shot 1-over (73) on the final day to finish tied for 44th at 8-over (224). Competing in her final event, graduate Valeria Mendizabal finished with a score 8-over (224) to tie for 44th. Ana Pina Ortega carded a score of 4-over (76) in the final round to bring her total to 15-over (231). Jarutrawee Khotchagrai rounded out the scoring individually for the Bulldogs tied for 67th with a score of 19-over (235).
