Antonaki, Racine Shine For State On Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., - Mississippi State women's tennis was represented well Saturday by Emmanouela Antonaki and Tamara Racine at the ITA Southern Regional Championships as the duo picked up a pair of doubles victories and both won their singles matches.

Antonaki and Racine – ranked 41^st nationally - started the day strong with back-to-back wins in doubles taking down Brianna Gomez and Giovanna Pereria of Louisiana-Monroe 8-0 and Tulane's Kristen Borland and Adelaide Lavery, 8-3.

Meanwhile the No. 43 pairing of Magda Adaloglou and Chloé Cirotte dominated their first match against Leonie Schuknecht and Ilana Tetruashvili of Louisiana Tech, 8-0. However, they dropped their second match against Ole Miss's Ludmila Kareisova and Kelsey Mize, 8-6.

In singles play, Antonaki, the 22^nd-ranked player in the country, fought back to take down Nina Geissler of LSU in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Racine dropped her first set against Samford's Alexis Lopez, but proceeded to take over the next two sets and emerged victorious by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-0.

Alexandra Mikhailuk fought hard against No. 96 Safiya Carrington of LSU, but fell in three sets 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. Marta Falceto fell in straight sets to Ole Miss's 69^th-ranked Tiphanie Fique 6-0, 6-4.

Cirotte faced off against Georgie Axon of Auburn, but lost in a tough three-set match 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.

The quarterfinals of doubles play will begin Sunday at 9 a.m. with Antonaki and Racine facing off against Ole Miss's pairing of Lillian Gabrielsen and Reka Zadori.

Singles play will start at 10:30 a.m. with Antonaki going toe-to-toe with Adeline Flach of Auburn and Racine going against Carolyn Ansari also of Auburn, who is the No. 3 seed and is ranked 45th nationally.
