Women's Tennis Posts Five Wins on Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., - Mississippi State's women's tennis started off the ITA Southern Regional Championships with a bang on Friday picking up five singles wins in the first round of main draw play.

The tournament's No. 1 seed Emmanouela Antonaki took down Lucie Raquin of Louisiana-Lafayette 6-3, 7-6(6).

Chloé Cirotte dominated McNeese State's Aina Domingo Bernabeau in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

After dropping the first set, Alexandra Mikhailuk pulled off an amazing comeback win against Auburn's Madeline Meredith 2-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Marta Falceto took care of business against Anastasia Astakhova of Auburn 6-4, 6-4 in her first-round matchup while 16^th-seeded Tamara Racine came back to defeat Kelsey Mize of Ole Miss 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

No. 9 seed Magda Adaloglou fought hard but fell to LSU's Mia Rabinowitz by a score of 6-4, 6-4.

Maddie McKee was defeated by Ariane Monlleo Sanchis of McNeese State 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(10-5) in her consolation match.

In MSU's only doubles match of the day, the tandem of Falceto and Mikhailuk fell to South Alabama's pairing of Nikola Kohoutova and Luminita Tutunaru, 8-4.

In the second round of singles play on Saturday, Antonaki faces Nina Geissler of LSU, Cirotte takes on Auburn's No. 7 seed Georgie Axon, Falceto matches up with No. 4 seed and the 69^th-ranked player nationally, Tiphanie Fiquet of Ole Miss, Mikhailuk goes toe-to-toe with LSU's No. 7 seed and 96^th-nationally Safiya Carrington and Racine will play Alexis Lopez from Samford all at 1 p.m.

Doubles action will also be underway Saturday with the No. 2 seed and No. 41 ranked duo of Antonaki and Racine facing Louisiana-Monroe's Brianna Gomez and Giovanna Pereria at 9:45 a.m.

Meanwhile, the No. 3 seed and 43^rd-ranked pairing of Adaloglou and Cirotte are set to match up with Louisiana Tech's Leonie Schuknecht and Ilana Tetruashvili at 9 a.m.
