Bulldog Tennis Opens Play At ITA Southern Regionals

Mississippi State men's and women's tennis teams began qualifying rounds at the ITA Southern Regionals in Alabama on Thursday.

Maddie McKee opened things in Tuscaloosa on the women's side with a pair of matches on Thursday. McKee, a junior playing in her first season collegiately, dropped a decision to UAB's Alexandra Ferreira 6-1, 6-2.

In her afternoon consolation match, McKee won the first set 6-3 over McNeese State's Matilde Mulatero but dropped the second set 6-2 and came out on the short end of a 10-7 super tiebreaker.

At Auburn on the men's side, redshirt freshman Seth Richey flirted with his first collegiate victory against Alabama State junior Juan Rodriguez only to fall shy in a tightly contested 6-4, 7-5 match.

Richey will have his consolation match on Friday at 11 a.m. against Maj Tomac of Jacksonville State.

The women's main draw also get underway on Friday. Marta Falceto and Alexandra Mikhailuk will team up against South Alabama's Nikola Kohoutova and Luminita Tutunaru in doubles action at 9 a.m.

Singles play for the Bulldogs begins Friday at noon with Chloé Cirotte competing against Aina Domingo-Bernabeu and Marta Falceto facing off against Auburn's Anastasia Astakhova.

Mikhailuk makes her singles debut of the event against Madeline Meredith of Auburn at 1:30 p.m. while Tamara Racine meets Ole Miss' Kelsey Mize at 2 p.m.

Top-seeded Emmanouela Antonaki – ranked 22^nd nationally – also competes at 2 p.m. on Friday against an opponent yet to be determined.

Magda Adaloglou rounds out singles play on Friday against LSU's Mia Rabinowitz at 3 p.m.

MSU's men will also be in doubles competition on Friday as Richey teams up with Davide Tortora against Alabama State's tandem of Ruan Du Preez and Samrakshyak Bajracharya at 4:30 p.m.
