MSU Men’s Tennis Unveils 2021 Spring Slate

STARKVILLE – Looking to build on a 2020 season that was cut short, Mississippi State men's tennis has announced another exciting, yet challenging schedule for 2021.
The Bulldogs who finished the abbreviated 2020 season ranked 41st nationally, will battle 13 opponents ranked inside the top 50 of last season's final ITA rankings. Nineteen home matches and the full slate of 12 SEC foes highlight the team's 2021 spring schedule.
"As things have developed and changed over the last few months, our original schedule has had some drastic changes," said MSU head coach Matt Roberts, entering his seventh year at the helm. "We used this opportunity to schedule more home matches than usual with most opponents coming from our region. The schedule is strong and with the new addition of the Rula Tennis Pavilion (indoor tennis facility), we know our matches will be played. With a lot going on in the world right now, we have so much to be thankful for and our team is ready to grow and build this season."
The Bulldogs open the season with 11 consecutive non-conference matches at home, beginning with Bellarmine and ULL on (Jan. 15). Out of those 11 contests, three teams - Middle Tennessee State (41st), Tulane (47th) and TCU (7th) - were in last season's ITA top 50 when play was halted in March due to the COVID pandemic.
In SEC play, the Bulldogs are set to host Texas A&M (Mar. 5), LSU (Mar. 7), South Carolina (Mar. 12), Florida (Mar. 14) and Auburn (Apr. 4). The Aggies, Gamecocks and Gators were all top 20 nationally last spring.
On the road, the Bulldogs will clash with Tennessee (Feb. 26), Georgia (Feb. 28), Ole Miss (Mar. 28), Alabama (Apr. 2), Vanderbilt (Apr. 9) and Kentucky (Apr. 11).
The 2021 SEC Championship is set for Apr. 19-23 in Fayetteville, Ark., with NCAA action slated to be held as usual in May.
