T&F Heads to Carolina Challenge
January 22, 2021 | Track & Field
This is the first of two meets State will attend at South Carolina this indoor season.
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Bulldogs of Mississippi State track and field head to South Carolina to face five SEC squads and four non-SEC opponents at the Carolina Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 23.
Â
"I think we had a pretty good start to our indoor campaign," said head coach Chris Woods. "Especially after being off over 320 days since the last time we competed. We got a lot of wins out of last week. The student-athletes did a good job of executing, and when you execute, the performances come with that execution. That's how we were able to get so many individual wins. I'm really encouraged as we move more into the indoor season."
Â
Mississippi State goes into the second meet of the indoor season having collected seven individual wins at the Commodore Indoor the previous weekend. Jesse Henderson found two wins, with his teammates Shayla Broughton, Helen Claire Edmonds, Navasky Anderson, Amy Warren and Sydney Steely all earning first-place finishes as well.Â
Â
This will be the first time the Bulldogs experience South Carolina's new facility, the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex. It is also the first of the two meets State competes in during the indoor season hosted by South Carolina. The Bulldogs are set to compete in the USC Indoor Open on February 13.
Â
The Bulldogs are going up against conference foes Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, as well as non-conference opponents Campbell, Florida Atlantic, North Carolina A&T and Southern Wesleyan on Saturday.
Â
The one-day meet will begin at 10 a.m. CT with the men's weight throw and long jump as well as the women's shot put and pole vault. The last events of the day are the men's and women's 4x400m relays, with the women's race starting at 4:45 p.m. CT.
Â
A full recap and final results will be available on HailState.com after the conclusion of the meet. Live results will be provided by AdkinsTrak throughout the meet.
