#STATEtoTheShow: Five Former Diamond Dawgs on MLB Postseason Rosters
September 29, 2020 | Baseball
STARKVILLE – Nine former Diamond Dawgs finished the 2020 MLB regular seasons on active rosters, and five of them will compete in MLB Postseason play beginning with three-game wild card series Tuesday (Sept. 29).
Â
The duo of Nate Lowe and Hunter Renfroe helped the Tampa Bay Rays capture the No. 1 seed in the American League. They will face the No. 8 seed Toronto Blue Jays at home, with game one of the series beginning Tuesday at 4 p.m. CT on TBS.
Â
Division mate Jonathan Holder and the New York Yankees finished as the No. 5 seed in the AL and will take on the No. 4 Cleveland Indians beginning Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
Â
Brent Rooker's Minnesota Twins also clinched an AL postseason berth after the former SEC Triple Crown winner made his MLB debut in September and batted .316 over seven games. However, the Twins rookie fractured his forearm shortly after his debut and will miss postseason play.
Â
In the National League, Mitch Moreland secured a postseason berth for the fourth time in the last five seasons, this time with the San Diego Padres. Moreland and the Padres will host Dakota Hudson's No. 5 seed St. Louis Cardinals. However, Hudson will miss the playoffs due to a season-ending injury suffered in September. Hudson posted a 2.77 ERA over eight starts in the regular season. The series is slated to start Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
Â
Brandon Woodruff and the No. 8 seed Milwaukee Brewers wrap up the NL bracket. Milwaukee's ace finished the 2020 regular season with 3.05 ERA and struck out 91 batters over 73 2/3 innings pitched after he kept his team's playoff hopes alive with an eight-inning, two-hit, 10-strikeout performance against the Cardinals in his final start on Saturday (Sept. 26).
Â
All games of the 2020 MLB Postseason will be featured on TBS or the ESPN family of networks.
