Clegg Earns U.S. Amateur Match Play Bid, Johnson Goes to Playoff

BANDON, Oregon – Mississippi State men's golf student-athletes Ford Clegg and Garrett Johnson are staying alive on the Oregon trails.

On Tuesday (Aug. 11), Clegg shot even 71 on the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort - Bandon Trails course to finish tied for 30th in the two-round U.S. Amateur Championship stroke play portion. With his 1-under total performance over two days, he secured a spot in Wednesday's round of 64 match play.

Johnson also is still alive but will have to compete in an 18-player playoff Wednesday to qualify for match play. Johnson shot 1-under 71 on the Bandon Dunes course on Tuesday to tie for 62nd at 2-over for the two rounds, just within the cut line.

Johnson's playoff pairing will tee off at 9:48 a.m. CT. Clegg will take on Harrison Ott, a fellow SEC student-athlete from Vanderbilt, in match play at 11:15 a.m. CT.
