STARKVILLE – Head coach James Armstrong has announced the addition of Laurie Waters to the Mississippi State soccer staff as director of soccer operations.
Waters joins the program from Xavier University where she held the same role. She spent the last two years with the Musketeers and was a part of their run to the 2019 Big East Conference championship.
"We are absolutely thrilled to add Laurie to our staff," Armstrong said. "She demonstrates all the necessary attributes and talent to excel in this important position. She will be a valuable resource for the players and a real asset for this program. We cannot wait to welcome her on campus soon."
While working with the Musketeers, Waters also served as a facility operations intern for FC Cincinnati. She helped with facility setup and breakdown for all home matches and maintained inventory along with overseeing regular facility maintenance checks.
"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to join Mississippi State University's soccer program and the Starkville community," Waters said. "The coaching staff has been so welcoming. Now, I enthusiastically look forward to meeting the players and the rest of the athletic department. I am especially thankful to Coach Armstrong and his staff for the opportunity to contribute to the team's success on and off the field. I take pride now in saying, 'Hail State.'"
Prior to moving to Cincinnati, Ohio, Waters was on the coaching staff at Hendrix College a Division III program in Conway, Arkansas. She led training sessions while managing the program's budget, equipment needs and travel logistics.
In her time there, Hendrix won a program record 11 games in 2016 and made the conference championship game in 2017. Thirteen Warriors earned all-conference selections in her three seasons on staff.
Waters graduated from Hendrix in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in health sciences. She played 66 career games as a midfielder, scoring once and adding three assists. She will complete her master's degree in sports administration from Xavier in May.
