Danberry Tabbed to SEC Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In her final season at Mississippi State, Jordan Danberry has been one of the best players in the conference on the court, but she's also been a great representative in the community, which earned her a spot on this year's SEC Community Service Team.
The graduate guard has participated in six different community service events this season, including several opportunities to work with children with autism and special needs through Camp Rising Sun and Baseball Buddies. Before MSU's game at Jackson State, Danberry and the team visited with kids who are battling serious illnesses at the local children's hospital.
Although it's not counted on her official community service log, Danberry also spearheaded the start of a mentoring program for female youth in in Starkville. The program is one of only two such programs for girls in the state. After approaching the director of the national mentoring branch, she accepted the responsibility of directing everything for the program, including coordinating all events, managing the resources, and scheduling all guest speakers.
This year, Danberry ranks 22nd among Division I players in total steals (71) and is 32nd in steals per game (2.5) to pace a Mississippi State defense that is 12th in the country and leads the SEC in turnovers forced per game (21.4). She has recorded multiple steals in 19 contests this season, including nine outings with four or more steals.
On the offensive end, the graduate guard ranks second on the team in assists (84) and is third in scoring (12.1 ppg). She has shot 50 percent or better from the field in 14 games this year and is shooting a .504 clip during SEC play.
Danberry was named a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday, and she was also tabbed to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Midseason Team.
