Diamond Dawg Duo Named to Golden Spikes Watch List
February 13, 2020 | Baseball
STARKVILLE – On the eve of opening the 2020 Mississippi State baseball season, a pair of Diamond Dawg standouts in junior Justin Foscue and sophomore JT Ginn were named to the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List as announced by USA Baseball on Thursday (Feb. 13).
Â
Foscue and Ginn join a group of 55 baseball student-athletes from around the country, both collegiate and prep, selected to the initial list. With two preseason honorees, MSU is one of 12 programs to be represented twice in this year's group.
Â
After helping the Bulldogs to back-to-back College World Series trips in his first two seasons, Foscue will look to build on a 2019 campaign in which he earned consensus All-America honors while batting .331 with 91 hits and leading the team in home runs (14) and slugging percentage (.564). The junior infielder earned consensus preseason All-America laurels ahead of the upcoming 2020 season and was also named a preseason first-team All-SEC selection.
Â
The 2019 National Freshman of the Year, Ginn takes over as the Bulldog ace in 2020. The sophomore earned preseason All-America honors from five publications and is ranked as the No. 15 prospect for the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft by MLBPipeline. As a freshman, Ginn burst on the scene by boasting a 3.13 ERA and becoming just the second Bulldog all-time to strike out 100 batters in a rookie season.
Â
The Golden Spikes Award is presented annually to the nation's best amateur player. Past winners include Stephen Strasburg (2009), Trevor Bauer (2011) and Kris Bryant (2013).
Â
While reserved seating season tickets are sold out for the 34th straight season, general admission/standing room only season tickets are available for a cost of $199. GA/SRO season tickets can be purchased at the Mississippi State Ticket Office, located in the Bryan Building off of Lakeview Drive. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 1-888-GO-DAWGS, on game day at the ticket office or online at hailstate.com/tickets.
