STARKVILLE – Maddy Anderson of Mississippi State soccer has been named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, announced by the Southeastern Conference on Thursday morning.
Anderson, a Texas native, has been a force to be reckoned with in goal this season, starting all eight matches and playing all but 21 minutes this season.
"It's not just the saves that she makes," said head coach James Armstrong. "It's her communication, it's her presence, her distribution, her practical awareness."
The freshman has faced a total of 100 shots and has racked up 34 saves in all through eight matches. She has a season-high of eight saves, which came against the then-ranked No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies on October 16 in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
Earlier in her freshman campaign, she was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts against Alabama, and then twice named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week.
She was the first freshman from Mississippi State to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors since 2003, when Luisa Marzotto was given the accolade.
Anderson is just the second freshman goalkeeper to start since 2015, with Katie Moore earning one start last season.
All season long she has earned praise on the SEC Network broadcasts from the likes of women's soccer greats Julie Foudy and Jill Loyden.
Next up for the netminder is facing the No. 7 seeded Vanderbilt in Orange Beach, Alabama in the SEC Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 15. Kick is set for 12 p.m. CT against the Commodores.
