Women's Golf Finished Day 1 at The Blessings
October 05, 2020 | Women's Golf
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mississippi State women's golf opened its fall season Monday, competing in the first round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
"This course is by far the most challenging and unforgiving course in college golf," said head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm. "It includes fear in hitting the most basic shot. We were pretty tense to start but fought hard all day. By the end of a seven-hour round with 28 teams, it was mentally and physically challenging to say the least."
Taking place at the Blessings Golf Club, the Bulldogs began the three-round invitational by carding a total of 317 and shooting 29-over par for the day.
Clara Moyano shot a 3-over par 75 to finish as MSU's best performer, tying for 19th after the first day. The senior rolled in four birdies to pace the Bulldogs.
Tied for 37th, junior Lauren Miller shot 6-over par 78, while sophomore Abbey Daniel finished the day 9-over par 81 to place tied for 53rd. Senior Aubree Jones-Wilkes carded a score of 83, while redshirt sophomore Hannah Levi rounded out the Bulldogs with a score of 84.
"We unfortunately had to pull Blair Stockett from the lineup late yesterday and put in Aubree," said Brown-Lemm. "All-American and All-SEC sophomore Ashley Gilliam was also out for this first event. We learned some things out there today, and as Bulldogs, we look forward to getting back out there tomorrow and applying what we learned."
The Bulldogs are slated to tee off at 8:28 a.m. CT on Hole 1 on Tuesday for the second round of The Blessings Invitational.
