State Golf Programs Tee Off Fall Season at The Blessings
October 04, 2020 | Men's Golf, Women's Golf
STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State men's and women's golf programs will tee off their fall seasons at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, beginning Monday, Oct. 5.
Â
The GOLF Channel announced the three-day event in partnership with the University of Arkansas earlier last month. The Bulldogs will play 54 holes over Oct. 5-7 on the 7,900-yard course at Blessings Golf Club. The all-SEC season opener will feature each men's and women's program in the conference.
Â
Head coaches Dusty Smith and Ginger Brown-Lemm are looking forward to the new season and seeing how their teams will compete in the SEC.
Â
"First off, I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to compete this fall," Smith said. "I know a lot of people have worked very hard to make this possible for our golf program, and our guys are very thankful for that. Last spring, when our season got cut short, I was devastated for our players who put so much time and effort into a season. To see them prepare for this moment for the past month or so has been gratifying."
Â
The men's lineup for the event includes Garrett Johnson, Ford Clegg, Austin Fulton, Ben Nelson and Cameron Clarke, an experienced group of Bulldogs.
Â
"We come into this fall competitive season with humility and a grateful heart," said Brown-Lemm. "We want to continue what we started last spring when we finished so abruptly. We have a unique opportunity with an all-SEC field and a beast of a golf course in The Blessings. We prepared hard and look forward to the challenge."
Â
The women's lineup for the event includes Hannah Levi, Lauren Miller, Blair Stockett, Abbey Daniel and Clara Moyano. The Bulldogs will be bringing Aubree Jones Wilkes as a sixth alternate.
Â
Teams will be paired with their own "pods," meaning all of Mississippi State's men's golfers will tee off together, as well as the Bulldog women. The men will tee off at 9:40 a.m., while the women tee of at 10:31 a.m. on Monday, October 5th. Tee times for Tuesday, October 6th are set for women to begin at 8:58 a.m., the first group of the day, and the men beginning at 11:13 a.m.Â
Â
"This is a new season with a new team. Our focus needs to be on our team and what we can control. It's important that we take the right and necessary steps every day to make sure we become the team we know we can be. This week is going to be a great test of golf against a great field and we couldn't be more excited to get out there and play Bulldog golf," Smith said
Â
The tournament will be broadcast live on the GOLF Channel from 3:30-6:30 p.m. CT each day.
