Price earns second save of the series, Hatcher’s three-run home run provides enough offense for victory
STARKVILLE – Spencer Price has been there before: three outs to get with a one-run lead. The graduate student closer once again delivered, this time to warp up competition in the Fall World Series and give Team Queso a sweep over Team Goat in a 3-2 victory.
After retiring the first two batters he faced, freshman Kamren James doubled and Kellum Clark walked to put two runners on base for Logan Tanner. Price, however, coaxed a ground ball to second base for the final out to seal the victory in the Fall World Series.
All of the offense was provided via the home run, as junior Josh Hatcher hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning for Team Queso and James hits a two-run shot for Team Goat in the eighth inning.
Each team collected six hits, but Team Goat stranded 10 runners on base to just four left on for Team Queso. The two teams played errorless baseball in the final of the series.
Freshman Will Bednar threw four scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a start for Team Queso and Jack Eagan followed with two scoreless frames. Chase Patrick (2-0) gave the maroon squad a perfect seventh to earn his second victory, while Price (2) closed out his second save of the series with a scoreless ninth.
Junior Cameron Tullar threw 3 2/3 innings in the start for Team Goat, as he allowed one hit and struck out two. Drew Talley retired all four batters he faced with one strikeout and Dylan Carmouche threw a scoreless eighth inning with one walk and one strikeout. Senior Riley Self (0-1) took the loss with the three runs allowed in two innings of work.
At the plate, James led the way with a three-hit night and a pair of RBIs for Team Goat. True freshman Shane Lewis singled and walks, while Logan Tanner chipped in one hit and walked twice in the game.
For Team Queso, Tanner Allen was on base three times with a pair of hits and one walk. Senior Scott Dubrule walked once and singled to round out the offensive leaders for the victors.
The final two games scheduled in the series will not be played in the Fall World Series format.
