Team Queso Takes Game One, 9-5

Allen, Garner, Hatcher and Puckett each own two RBIs for Team Queso in the series opener
STARKVILLE – Nealy 48 hours after starting the Fall World Series, Team Queso closed out a 9-5 victory over Team Goat as graduate student Spencer Price recorded the final two outs to secure the win.
Team Queso out-hit its counterpart, 16-4, led by the quartet of juniors Tanner Allen, Josh Hatcher and Rowdey Jordan, and sophomore Kace Garner. Jordan was 5-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored, while Allen chipped in three hits – two for extra bases – two RBIs and two runs scored. Garner and Hatcher each owned two hits and two RBIs.
Freshman Peyton Puckett added two RBIs for Team Queso.
Leading the way at the plate for Team Goat was junior Brayland Skinner and sophomores Kamren James and Logan Tanner. The trio recorded all four of the squads hits, with Skinner reaching base all four times. Skinner had two hits, a walk and was hit by a pitch. James owned a base hit and one RBI, while Tanner plated a pair of runs with a double.
Graduate student Carlisle Koestler got the start for Team Goat on the mound and allowed two runs on eight hits over three innings of work. He struck out one and didn't walk a batter. Team Queso got four innings our of junior Houston Harding, who allowed two runs on four hits. Harding struck out four and walked one. Team Queso reliever Parker Stinnett has five strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Junior Chase Patrick (1-0) picked up the win with two innings of one-run work. He didn't allow a hit, walked two and struck out two. KC Hunt (0-1) took the loss with two runs allowed in two innings of work. He allowed three hits, walked three and struck out one. Price (1) entered with a runner on base and one out, and closed out the save by retiring both batters faced.

The first two hitters reached against starting pitcher Houston Harding, as Brayland Skinner singled to lead things off and advanced to third on a Kamren James single. After James stole second, Logan Tanner doubled down the left field line with one out to score both runners.

Rowdey Jordan singled to start the inning and came around on a Tanner Allen triple that caromed off the brick façade in the Adkerson Plaza. Allen crossed the plate on an infield single by Josh Hatcher.

Austin Reed walked with one out against reliever Chase Patrick, moved to second on a ground out and advanced to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, Skinner worked a walk and, on the final pitch of the at-bat, Reed scampered home on a wild pitch.

The first three batters reached base for Team Queso against reliever KC Hunt in his second inning of work and took its first lead of the game. After Hatcher and Luke Hancock walked, Kace Garner singled to knot the score at three. Peyton Puckett then gave his team the lead with an RBI ground out.

Team Queso extended its lead against a pair of relievers, scoring five runs on four hits, and used two walks and a hit-by-pitch to its advantage. Allen, Hatcher, Garner, Brandon Pimentel and Puckett all chipped in RBIs in the frame.

Shane Lewis reached base on a wild pitch after a strikeout, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He then came in to score on a wild pitch against reliever Parker Stinnett.

Skinner led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch, stole second base and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher. James followed with a single to score Skinner and stole second following a Kellum Clark strikeout, just prior to the stoppage.
