Gilliam Leads the Bulldogs in Second Round at The Ally
October 20, 2020 | Women's Golf
WEST POINT, Miss. – Following the second round of play, the Mississippi State women's golf team finished day two in 11th place in The Ally at the Old Waverly Golf Club. The squad shot 11-over for a score of 299.
"We were disappointed in how we played today," said head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm. "We came ready for a great round but lacked the tenacity to finish the work we set out to do. We have worked way too hard to have this kind of round at our home course. Mentally, we need to commit to our individual processes and get the ball in the hole. We will be ready to dominate the day tomorrow and move up the leaderboard."
Sophomore Ashley Gilliam continued to lead the team by shooting even on the day, placing her tied for 14th amongst the best in the SEC. She rolled in three birdies for the second day in a row, helping her to a 1-under score for the event.
Tied for 29th, sophomore Abbey Daniel shot 3-over par 75 for the day, putting her only 3-over for the tournament after round two. Senior Valeria Mendizabal remains tied for 47th going into the final round with a total 6-over par score.
Seniors Clara Moyano and Blair Stockett are tied for 60th place with overall scores of 11-over par.
The Bulldogs are set to compete in the final round of The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club on Wednesday. State will tee off at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start. Fans can follow along with the live scoring at GolfStat.com.
