Women’s Tennis Returns Home To Host Hail State Classic Friday And Sunday
October 15, 2020 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – After opening the 2020 fall campaign last weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mississippi State's women's tennis team returns home to host the Hail State Classic this Friday (Oct. 16) and Sunday (Oct. 18). The event will be held at both State's A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre and State's very welcome new addition – the Rula Tennis Pavilion, MSU's six-court indoor facility.
The Bulldogs will be joined in competition this weekend by players from its closest SEC rivals – Ole Miss and Alabama.
In accordance with COVID-19 protocols, fans will not be allowed to attend any matches this weekend in person. However, live video and live stats will be available for all matches at www.HailState.com/livewt.
The weekend will kick off with doubles action Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT, followed by two singles sessions at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m, respectively. The teams are set to open Sunday with two doubles sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Action in the Hail State Classic will then conclude with singles play at 1:30 p.m.
The Hail State Classic will mark the first time in over 25 years that MSU tennis has hosted a fall event on campus. State's men will also host the Bulldog Challenge in a three-day event next weekend (Oct. 23-25).
"We are excited to be hosting a fall event for the first time in a while," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "Having our new indoor facility (the Rula Tennis Pavilion) made it possible. We wanted to keep travel to a minimum during the fall. Now that we have a backup plan in case of weather, we are able to schedule an event like this with confidence that we will be able to practice and compete rain or shine."
Marta Falceto, Alexandra Mikhailuk, Valeria Nikolaev, Lilian Poling and Tamara Racine will represent the Maroon and White on the courts once again this weekend. The Bulldogs went a combined 11-8 during their fall 2020 debut last weekend at the SEC Challenge in Tuscaloosa, competing against Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky.
"This will be the second of three events for us on consecutive weekends featuring SEC opponents," Greenan continued. "We had a strong showing last weekend in Tuscaloosa and we hope to back it up with another good showing here in Starkville this weekend."
